SUPERMAN

'So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they become improbable, and then when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable' - Christopher Reeves (1952 - 2004)

I remember a scene from a movie, where the antagonist was asking the hero to give up.

He was using a particular superhero to illustrate his point - Superman.

Kal-El is an amazing being, unlike any other. He could jump over skyscrapers, fly with airplanes... he is even impenetrable by bullets!

But he was amongst us - humans. So, he needed a secret identity. Many would think his blue / red undies & cape outfit is his cover.

However, the fact is - Clark Kent is the secret identity! Unlike Bruce Wayne's alter ego, Batman or Spidey Peter Parker who dresses up, Superman was borned well... Superman.

He had to 'dress down' to blend in. Nerdy glasses coupled with disastrous clumsiness... this is how he 'became' one of us - frail, weak and ultimately inferior.

So, you may ask - what's your point?

The thing is, are we all that he potrays?

When Christopher Reeves passed away last month, the news came as a shock to me (not that I am a big fan).

But, he was this man - larger than life, both on & off the silver screen. An inspiration! To all of us.

The human spirit is indeed a strange thing... but more than any other thing - wondrous.

This entry is dedicated to Christopher Reeves, the 9-11's, our parents, our brothers
& sisters, our friends and foes, future leaders and little childs and babes.

...because I want believe that we are not weak, or frail and definitely not inferior.
